Singles Awareness Day

Happy Valentine's Day! Sorry to have fallen off the grid. I should be on more with updates of what is going on over here. Today I am almost done recovering from having my wisdom teeth out. Anyone else know how much fun that can be? But, that has been most of my focus the last few days. Besides that, I have some fun new projects going on. Going to get back to those for now, but I will be back soon with more on the goings on of me, Krystle, and Gigantic Software.

Easter

Happy Easter! I had a wonderful day filled with friends, family and good food. I hope that you had an equally enjoyable day. I had a chance to run around the office on Friday with bunny ears and a tail. Besides that, there is a lot of stuff going on here at Gigantic. Looking forward to spending some time these next few weeks getting out of the office.  Also, thank you for the feedback to those that have been reading. I like hearing your thoughts. Please leave a comment with any great Easter/Spring stories, as this has always been my favorite time of year.

00000001, 00000010

I am learning beginning programming with C++. So far, this has been a fun experience. I am enjoying writing little bits of code and seeing my program run. So far I am doing small things like building simple calculators, converting weather from F to C, making multiplication tables and calculating factorials. Now, in the factorial program, I came across a bug. There was no mention as to WHY there was a bug, but there was. I looked at it, and it should be fine, everything was where it should be, but still, if I entered certain numbers the answers would start coming back negative or at some point, just as 0. Clearly this was a bug. And the answer to my bug is in binary and how those numbers are stored. This led me from C++ programming to learning to count in binary. FYI, I like binary, it is pretty, it makes sense, and it is fun to color when written on graph paper. Watching the 1's and 0's switch in and out of existence in logical patterns makes me happy. Hopefully I will someday be able to use these building blocks that I am learning now. For now, I am happy just to see a build come through with no warnings and no errors and try to figure out why my programs run the way they do. Check back soon for updates on how my C++ skills are progressing. Also, I am in the process of learning guitar, swing dancing and horse care. Please post with any hints or tips you can offer me in my journey.

Free Stuff

It is time for GDC, and we know what that means... free stuff. Between all the talks and socializing, it is time to get bottle openers, dice, bags and other items, all for free. And the most important free items? The black tshirts that will ensure a wardrobe for the coming year. Now, I am deciding to get in on the action. Here at Gigantic, we have some wonderful tshirts (I know, I have some, I wear them, I love them, and I even have an extra large that I love to sleep in, because unlike many other free tshirts, ours are soft and comfy). And the best news, I will have them with me at GDC. All you have to do to get a comfy, wonderful tshirt is find me and ask for one. Oh yeah... and wear it. Yeah, I love these tshirts, and I would LOVE to see them on you. So, be prepared to put on the comfy tshirt I hand over to you. Hope to see you at GDC.

Note: GDC is a chance to meet new people. It is a chance to network with people in your industry. Bring your business cards. Business cards are wonderful, and you should always have some on you, but especially here. I run into so many people that forget to bring business cards. I call that a lost opportunity. So, bring your business cards, they do you no good sitting on your desk back at the office.

Happy Valentine's Day

Well, I am back from the trip to Vegas. DICE was fun. It was good to see some familiar faces. Came out ahead in gambling and I had the chance to dress up for a night on the town. I have to say, it was a great trip. Now, for GDC planning. I hope to see a lot more of you at GDC. Check my blog before then for some fun GDC info. Also, don't forget to check out the GDC presentation by John Byrd on Wed at 4:30. Last of all, I hope you are having a great Valentine's Day. Remember to share the love with those close to you.
